Say Insane Things, Then Call the Reaction Insane

By Christine Ann O'Connell · · Originally published on Facebook

Welcome to another day of “did that really happen?”

In case you missed it, yesterday our esteemed President told a rally in Nebraska that Iran should “take out Los Angeles or San Diego.” That's right: Trump started a war with Iran and then suggested Iran should take out a city or two of ours. That's certainly one way to get martial law, which, for context, he is explicitly keeping on the table as we head into a Congressional election. Because that's super normal, right?

I am no friend of the government of Iran, but obviously I don't think they would say, “Oh yes, let's go ahead and do that, good idea!” So what's the game here?

This is representative of the golden thread our esteemed leader operates from: say insane things that incite people to have a variety of responses, thoughts and feelings. Then act like the people who respond to the insanity are the insane ones. Not surprisingly, this is what people with severe personality disorders do extremely well.

I don't think it's a big surprise to anyone at this point that we seem to have elected a person with distorted thinking to the highest office in the land (the world?), unless you're still somehow MAGA, in which case I guess you haven't figured this out.

If that's you, honestly, please reach out. I get it: our options for politicians across the board are usually atrocious. But do you mean to tell me that you hate your countrymen and women so much that you want to endorse this behavior? Seriously, I would love to talk to you. Help me understand.

For everyone else: what exactly are we going to do about this?
